The mission

To fly out to Athens with cycles, tents and anything else we need (upto 20kg of course), cycle through the mountains to Olympia and capture the olympic flame on camera. From there we intend to cycle to the most northen reaches of Greece where we catch a ferry to the east coast of Italy and continue our journey north, eventually crossing over the Alps into France. We travel northwest towards Le Mans and on to St. Malo, then the Ferry back to Weymouth. The jounrney is approximately 2,850km or 1,800 miles and will take around 4 weeks.

Why would anyone do this?

This is most definitely not a mid life crisis! We all enjoy the occasional ride on a bike and it just seemed like a good idea with a nice olympic theme, just right for 2012. It also occured to us that it would be nice to raise some cash for Julias House, a local childrens hospice who are really struggling for funds at the moment, and we couldnt think of a more sensible way to help them out.

The website

This site has been put together to keep people informed of all aspects of the trip, from planning to progress with fundraising. We will be logging all the training rides (of which there are pitifully few) and will be keeping the site updated, when we are finally underway, with our actual route, photos and blogs. Hopefully anyone parting with their hard earned pennies will find the content of some interest even if it is only me whinging about how steep the hills are.
