Situated in Purbeck in the heart of one of the most popular tourist areas in the country, Buddens is surrounded by activities, attractions and places of interest to meet all your requirements:
  • Beaches
    sandy beaches at Studland, Swanage & Weymouth; the shingle bay at Worbarrow and rock pools galore at Kimmeridge, all with crystal clear waters ideal for snorkelling
  • Walks and hike routes
    inland along the fabulous ridge walk to Corfe Castle or the Dorset Coast path, part of the South West Coast Path and theJurassic Coast - England's first natural World Heritage Site.

  • Wareham Forest
    with miles of marked tracks and a stunning Iron Age Fort, is easily accessible from Buddens on foot or on bicycle. Sika Trail - a 7 mile marked cycle trail. Ideal for hikes, basic navigation exercises and for DoE expeditions.
  • Swanage Railway
    For an outing with a difference try The Swanage Railway. The restored steam railway operates regular services to and from Corfe Castle and Swanage. Some groups have combined a hike from Corfe to Swanage and returned by train - or vice versa. Park & ride facilities at both ends.
 
  • Cycle routes
    the Purbeck Cycleway has 6 waymarked cycle routes around the area varying from 12 to 47 miles. Route maps and details available from Buddens or from the Wareham Tourist Information Centre 01929 552740.   • High ropes course
    and other activities at Brenscombe Activity Centre approximately 12 miles from Buddens. Contact Tim Hughes 01929 481222.

    on the 2 local tidal rivers, the Frome & the Piddle - both feed into the upper reaches of Poole Harbour. What about a kayak expedition to Brownsea from Wareham – all tidal with no access problems.
  • The famous Tank Museum

The Buddens Centre Manager lives locally and can assist with planning your stay at Buddens. He can recommend hike and cycling routes in the locality, approved campsites for overnight stays etc.

Many of the activities listed above have been used successfully by groups visiting Buddens. Inclusion in this website does not imply that the organisation is approved of or endorsed by Buddens or Dorset Scouts. Visiting Scout groups thinking of using these activities must satisfy themselves that the organisations meet the requirements for outside activity providers as laid down in POR and relevant Factsheets. Non Scouting organisations are encouraged to do the same.
